Your Behavioral Style IS Affecting Your Referrability

As a networker, there’s no question about whether or not your behavioral style is affecting your referrability–it IS.  The question is, how can you learn to effectively communicate with a diverse array of other behavioral styles while maintaining your own style for an optimum outcome?

In this video, Dawn Lyons (whom I consider to be one of the world’s leading experts on behavioral styles/profiles and referral networking), my partner in the Referral Institute, talks with me about how behavioral styles affect networking results and referrability. She discusses behavior profiling programs that help networkers adapt to and accommodate a variety of behavioral styles for maximum referrability.

  1. I would almost assuredly be the Examiner behavioral style, but I could be wrong in my self-examination. It would take another person to affirm that hypothesis.

    The most obvious take-away from the information is that I need to identify the behavioral styles of those in my network. That way, the relationship becomes ideal for both parties.

    How that is done, I think, depends entirely on the specific person in question.

  2. So when I meet 2 people with different styles, who am I supposed to be?

    And when I meet them again, how do I remember who I’m supposed to be?

    1. Brendan, If that’s what you got out of this discussion then we didn’t explain it well enough. It’s not about trying to be someone else. It’s about understanding the person you are and doing your best to understand the behavior profile of the people you’re with. Tony Alessandra says it best with the Platinum rule. It’s not about treating people the way YOU want to be treated. It’s about treating people the way THEY want to be treated. You can do that better by understanding their behavior profile and understanding how your profile generally reacts to theirs.

      Understanding behavior better (both yours and others) is a good thing to learn.
